When I was child, I remember going to countless studios for family portraits. I remember the backdrops, the lights, the props, and the posing. This was what I knew family photography to be. So, when I started in the picture taking business, this is what I tried to do. I put up a backdrop. I brought props and I posed EVERYTHING. This doesn’t sound like me at all now. Does it? It didn’t take me long to discover, that this was not the kind of photography I wanted to do.
I have to thank the wonderful world of weddings for giving me a different perspective on how I was meant to photograph. Now, I’m very free style. I take pleasure in capturing people being themselves. I enjoy those real moments between a bride and her dad, the groom and his best man, and family members interacting. I feel these are the photographs that speak truth. They tell the story of who the people are, how they feel about each other and what they are experiencing.
Its taken me a while to discover how I could incorporate my style to different types of photography. Weddings are fun for me because there is always something going on. Instead of everyone focusing on me, they are focused on what they are doing or (better yet) on each other. Keeping all this in mind, I’ve designed new photo sessions for children, families, individuals and seniors. These sessions are designed to get you active.
When you hire me, I will ask you to think of an activity that you enjoy doing. It can be simple or it can be complicated. The point is, it will loosen you up. If you are in your environment, the poses for your photos will develop naturally. Your expressions will be genuine, and the session will be a lot more fun. What you’re doing will show in some of the images, but not all of them. I use a variety of lenses to capture action, expression, and mood.
On the main website you will find photographs from active sessions and events. I am really excited about the new things being offered. Please check out the website for more information.
